What is keyword density?
Keyword density is the share of your total words that a given term takes up, written as a percentage. If a phrase appears 6 times in a 300-word page, its density is 2%. The formula is simple: (phrase count ÷ total words) × 100.
Does it still matter?
Not the way old SEO advice claimed. There is no magic percentage Google rewards, and writing toward a target density produces stiff, repetitive copy that reads worse for humans. The useful job for a density check today is the opposite: spotting over-use. If one phrase dominates your page, you may be drifting into keyword stuffing, which is a quality and spam risk, not a ranking trick. Cover your topic with natural language and varied phrasing instead.
