SEO Title Examples: 40 Real Titles by Page Type
40 SEO title tag examples for homepages, products, blog posts and local pages, with the formula behind each and before/after rewrites that fit 600px.
Most SEO title advice stops at the rules. This is the other half: 40 worked examples, grouped by the page type you are actually writing for, with the formula behind each one and the before/after rewrites that show what changed. Every title here fits the ~600 pixel budget Google truncates at, which is roughly 50 to 60 characters.
If you want the reasoning behind the patterns first, title tag SEO best practices covers the rules and what is a title tag covers the element itself. This page is the library.
The four slots every SEO title fills
Strip 40 good titles down and you find the same skeleton underneath. Not every title uses all four slots, but the order rarely changes.
| Slot | Job | Example fragment |
|---|---|---|
| Primary keyword | Tells Google which query the page competes for | Keyword Density Checker |
| Qualifier | Says what kind of page this is | : Free Online Tool |
| Differentiator | Gives a reason to click this result, not result 3 | No Signup, Instant Results |
| Brand | Builds recognition across your results | | SEO Worth |
The whole craft is deciding how much of the 600px budget each slot deserves. On a competitive head term the keyword and the differentiator matter most. On a branded page the brand can move forward. On a long-tail page you often only need the keyword, because the query is already so specific that anything else is noise.
Homepage title examples
The homepage is the hardest title on any site, because the page is about everything. The fix is to pick the one job the business does and name the category, not the company mission.
| Homepage title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
Free SEO Tools: Snippet Preview & Meta Checkers | 47 | Category + specifics |
Handmade Leather Bags, Made in Portugal | Alvar | 47 | Product + origin + brand |
Dallas Roof Repair & Replacement | Northgate | 44 | Service + city + brand |
Project Management Software for Small Teams | 43 | Category + audience |
Bookkeeping for Freelancers, From $29/mo | Ledgr | 47 | Service + audience + price |
Learn Spanish With Native Tutors | Hablante | 44 | Outcome + method + brand |
Same-Day Dry Cleaning in Austin, TX | Pressed | 45 | Speed + service + city + brand |
Open Source Analytics, Self-Hosted | Countly | 45 | Category + key attribute |
Pattern: [What you sell] + [for whom / where / what makes it different] | [Brand]
What none of these do is lead with the company name. Alvar | Home tells a searcher nothing and spends the most valuable characters on the least distinguishing word. The exception is a brand with real search demand of its own, where people are typing the name and a brand-first title matches their query.
Category and collection page title examples
Category pages compete on breadth, so the two things worth adding are a count and a qualifier that narrows the set.
| Category title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
Men's Running Shoes: 180+ Styles, Free Returns | 46 | Category + count + policy |
Standing Desks Under $500 | 2026 Collection | 43 | Category + price + recency |
Vegan Protein Powder: 40 Flavors in Stock | 41 | Category + variety + stock |
Used Toyota Tacoma for Sale in Phoenix, AZ | 42 | Product + intent + location |
Wedding Photographers in Leeds: 60+ Portfolios | 46 | Service + city + count |
Kids' Winter Coats, Ages 2-12 | Free Shipping | 45 | Category + range + policy |
Pattern: [Category] + [count / price band / location] + [trust cue]
Counts age badly if you hard-code them, so generate them from the template. A category title claiming “180+ styles” on a page showing 12 is worse than no count at all.
Product page title examples
Product titles carry a real risk of duplication, because the template is the same on 4,000 pages. The variable part has to do the distinguishing work.
| Product title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
Aeron Chair, Size B, Graphite | Free Delivery | 45 | Product + variant + policy |
Anker 737 Power Bank 24,000mAh | 140W PD | 41 | Product + spec + spec |
Merino Wool Crew Socks, 3-Pack | Charcoal | 42 | Product + quantity + colour |
Sony WH-1000XM6 Review: 42 Hours of Testing | 43 | Product + format + proof |
Cast Iron Skillet, 12 Inch, Pre-Seasoned | 41 | Product + size + key attribute |
Pattern: [Exact product name] + [the variant a buyer searches] + [one differentiator]
The variant matters more than it looks. People search “aeron chair size b”, not “ergonomic office seating solution”. Match the words a buyer would type into the box, including the model number.
Blog post and guide title examples
Editorial titles have the most freedom and therefore the most ways to go wrong. The discipline is that the title has to say what the reader gets, not how comprehensive you believe the article to be.
| Blog title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
How to Write a Meta Description (With Examples) | 47 | How-to + proof of format |
Meta Description Length: Character & Pixel Limits | 48 | Topic + the two things asked |
Robots Meta Tag: Noindex, Nofollow & Directives | 47 | Topic + the values people search |
Redis vs Memcached: 6 Benchmarks, One Verdict | 44 | Comparison + evidence + payoff |
Sourdough Starter Not Rising? 7 Fixes That Work | 47 | Problem + count + promise |
SEO Audit Checklist: 34 Checks in Priority Order | 48 | Topic + count + organizing idea |
Why Your Sitemap Says 0 Indexed (And the Fix) | 45 | Symptom + resolution |
Pattern: [Query as written] + [: or ( ] + [count / format / outcome]
The parenthetical is doing real work in several of these. (With Examples), (And the Fix) and 2026 are cheap, high-signal additions that cost 10 to 14 characters and answer the searcher’s unspoken “yes, but does it actually have what I need”.
Local and service page title examples
Local titles are the most formulaic on this page, and that is a feature. The searcher has a service and a place in their head, so the title should contain both in that order.
| Local title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
Emergency Plumber in Bristol, Open 24/7 | 39 | Service + city + availability |
Dog Grooming in Portland, OR | Book Online | 42 | Service + city + action |
Manchester Man and Van, From £45/hr | Fully Insured | 51 | Service + city + price + trust |
Invisalign in Brooklyn: Free Consultation | 41 | Treatment + area + offer |
Car Detailing, Scottsdale AZ | Mobile Service | 45 | Service + city + delivery model |
Pattern: [Service] + [in] + [city, state] + [availability / price / trust cue]
Resist the temptation to stack cities. Plumber in Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, Newport and Swansea is the single most common local title mistake, it spends the whole budget on a keyword list, and it reads as spam to both a person and to Google. One page, one place.
Tool and software page title examples
Tool pages sit between commercial and informational intent. The searcher wants to use something right now, so the title should promise access, not education.
| Tool title | Chars | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
SERP Snippet Preview & Meta Length Checker (Free) | 49 | What it does + price |
Keyword Density Checker: Free Word & Phrase Tool | 48 | Tool + qualifier |
JSON Formatter & Validator, No Upload Needed | 44 | Tool + privacy differentiator |
Image Compressor: 80% Smaller, Same Quality | 43 | Tool + result + reassurance |
UTM Builder for Google Analytics 4 | Free Tool | 45 | Tool + platform + price |
Pattern: [Tool name as searched] + [: or &] + [free / speed / privacy]
“Free” earns its place here more than anywhere else on the site. On a tool query it is the single biggest predictor of a click, because the searcher’s real question is whether they are about to hit a signup wall.
Before and after: five rewrites
Examples are more useful when you can see what was wrong. Each of these is a real shape of bad title, not a strawman.
| Before | After | The fix |
|---|---|---|
Untitled document | Shipping & Returns Policy | Alvar | A title exists at all; Google stops guessing |
Products | Standing Desks Under $500 | 2026 Collection | Names the category instead of the CMS template |
Best SEO Company, SEO Agency, SEO Services, SEO Experts NYC | SEO Agency in NYC: Technical Audits & Content | Stops stuffing; one keyword, then real information |
We Are Proud to Announce Our New Range of Winter Outerwear for | Kids' Winter Coats, Ages 2-12 | Free Shipping | Fits the budget; leads with the noun people search |
Blog | On-Page SEO Guides & Tutorials | SEO Worth | Describes the content, not the section |
Three of those five failures are CMS defaults. Before you spend an afternoon polishing your best pages, export every title on the site and sort alphabetically: Home, Blog, Products, Untitled and duplicate template strings will cluster at the top and they are the cheapest wins you will ever get.
Bad SEO title examples and why they fail
| Bad title | What goes wrong |
|---|---|
SEO Titles | SEO Title Tags | Title Tag SEO | SEO Title | Keyword stuffing; reads as spam, near-certain rewrite |
The Ultimate Complete Definitive Guide to Title Tags 2026 | Superlative stacking; no specifics, and it blows past 600px |
ACME Corp | ACME Corp | Winter Coats | Brand twice, product last; the useful word gets truncated |
Home | No keyword, no differentiation, identical to a million pages |
WINTER SALE!!! 50% OFF EVERYTHING NOW!!! | All caps burns the pixel budget fast and reads as shouting |
Winter Coats - Winter Coats for Men - Winter Coats for Kids | Near-duplicate stacking that wastes every slot after the first |
The common thread is that each of these optimizes for a machine that stopped existing around 2011. Keyword repetition has not been a ranking lever for a long time, and now it is an active signal for Google to replace your title with something it writes itself.
Pick a formula by search intent
If you only remember one thing from this page, make it this table. The page type tells you the shape; the intent tells you the differentiator.
| Intent | The searcher wants | Title formula |
|---|---|---|
| Informational | An answer | [Question or topic]: [the specific answer or count] |
| Commercial | To compare | [A] vs [B]: [what decides it] |
| Transactional | To buy or use | [Product/tool] | [price, speed or free] |
| Navigational | A specific page or brand | [Brand] [thing] | [Brand] |
| Local | Someone nearby | [Service] in [City] | [availability or trust] |
Test your own titles
Examples get you a draft. The last step is measuring it, because the pixel budget is the thing that actually cuts.
- Paste the title into the SERP snippet preview tool and read the pixel width, not the character count. Under ~600px on desktop.
- Switch the preview to mobile and check that the keyword and the differentiator both land before the cut.
- Compare the title against the page’s H1 and
og:title. They do not need to be identical, but they must describe the same thing, or Google has a reason to write its own. The full head-tag reference is in meta tags in HTML. - Write the meta description in the same pass, since the two lines are read together. Meta description length has that budget.
- Sort every title on the site alphabetically and kill the duplicates.
If you are unsure whether a page is drifting into keyword stuffing more broadly, paste the body text into the keyword density checker: a title that stuffs usually sits on a page that stuffs.
The bottom line
The 40 examples above reduce to a short list of shapes: category plus qualifier for homepages, count plus narrowing for categories, exact product plus variant for products, query plus format for guides, and service plus city for local. Fill the four slots in order, keep the whole thing under about 600 pixels, and make sure the first three words would make sense to someone who has never heard of you. That is nearly the entire job.
Next, put the rules behind these examples in place with title tag SEO best practices, then run the whole page through the on-page SEO basics checklist.

- What is an example of a good SEO title?
- `Meta Description Length: Character & Pixel Limits` is a good example. It leads with the exact phrase people search, adds a qualifier that says what the page actually contains, and fits inside the 600px title budget with room for a brand name. A weak version of the same page would be `Everything You Need to Know About Meta Descriptions`, which says nothing specific and spends its whole budget on filler.
- How many characters should an SEO title be?
- About 50 to 60 characters, which lands near Google's ~600 pixel truncation point on desktop. Pixels are the real limit and characters are only a proxy, so a title full of wide letters like W and M runs out of room sooner than one full of narrow letters. Measure the rendered width rather than counting the string.
- Should the keyword go at the start of the title tag?
- Near the start, yes. Front-loading protects the keyword from truncation on narrow screens and puts the most relevant words where searchers scan first. Use it once and let the rest of the title sell the click. Forcing the keyword into position one at the cost of readability is a bad trade.
- What is the difference between an SEO title and a meta title?
- Nothing. "Meta title" is a common misnomer for the HTML `<title>` element. There is no `<meta name="title">` tag that Google uses. Some CMS platforms label the field "SEO title" or "meta title", but they all write the same `<title>` tag.
- Should every page title include the brand name?
- Usually, at the end, separated by a pipe or hyphen. Brand last builds recognition across your results without spending the valuable front of the budget, and it is the part you can most afford to lose to truncation. Drop it when the descriptive part already fills 600px, and drop it on pages where the brand adds no information.
- Why does Google show a different title than the one I wrote?
- Google rewrites the title link on roughly 58 to 61% of results. It usually happens when the tag is missing, boilerplate across many pages, stuffed with keywords, much too long or much too short, or a poor match for the query. It builds the replacement from your H1, prominent on-page text, anchor text, and og:title, so keeping those aligned with your title tag is the practical fix.
